Genre 4: visually represented research
One of the first forms of trauma that is openly discussed in Whale Talk is the loss of Chris Coughlin’s brother, while one of the last is the violent death of another character's father near the end of the novel. Loss of a family member is a particular form of trauma that frames the entire text, and research suggests that similar trauma-inducing tragedies are perhaps more frequent than commonly believed. The visual representation of this research data through a flyer featuring infographics may help change this perception in an accessible manner. The map-based infographic was created using mapchart.net
